In 2010, Dr Matshaya served as a Senior Medical Officer at the Mthatha Mental Unit and later became a Medical Registrar at the unit as well. Additionally, he was a Medical Officer at the Department of Psychiatry at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and Komani Hospital before relocating to Grahamston in 2016, where he was a Medical Registrar at Fort England Psychiatric Hospital.
Dr Matshaya became a Fellow of the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa (FC Psych (SA)) in 2020 and ventured into private practice in November 2021.

He spearheads the development and implementation of practice policies and procedures; manages and oversees the administration of HR policies and programs within the practice; establishes and maintains professional relationships with the patients and health practitioners, he maintains accounts payable, receivables and monthly billing.
Away from work, Wonga enjoys time away camping/hiking, music, reading and biking.
